Within the framework of the Chemistry teaching program, which is carried out together with the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, there are 27 faculty members and 16 research assistants to support the development of our students' field knowledge and teaching profession knowledge. Education and training activities are carried out in well-equipped classrooms and field-specific laboratories in Atatürk Faculty of Education and Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

It provides our students with school experience and teaching practice in Istanbul's leading secondary education institutions.

In addition, our students are offered the opportunity to take part in national and international research projects carried out in our program and improve their research skills.

The vision of our department

To train teachers who have strong field knowledge and pedagogical formation, are researchers, can think critically, are self-confident and have universal teacher competencies.

Students who complete the four-year undergraduate program affiliated with the Faculty become chemistry teachers with undergraduate degrees. Courses taken by our teacher candidates; It consists of pedagogical content knowledge courses at Atatürk Faculty of Education and courses in the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Science and Letters.

Candidates with a bachelor's degree or a non-thesis master's degree from the Chemistry teaching department of the Faculty of Education or the Chemistry department of the Faculty of Science and Letters can apply to master's and doctoral programs with thesis.

Teacher candidates in undergraduate programs have the opportunity to examine and apply teaching methods and activities and measurement and evaluation techniques in line with new approaches to the field of chemistry education. One of the biggest goals of our department is to equip its graduates with the knowledge and skills that can guide their students under the conditions of the 21st century.

In master's and doctoral programs with thesis, quantitative and qualitative scientific research design and methods are emphasized, and courses and studies are conducted to develop critical thinking, academic reading and writing skills. Additionally, researchers have opportunities to gain knowledge and skills in statistical methods and research special topics such as gender equality in science education. The department's graduate programs aim to train academics who will contribute to the restructuring of chemistry education in line with new approaches.

Working places

Our graduating students can be appointed as Chemistry teachers in secondary schools. They can also find jobs in different positions in pharmaceutical, paint and other industries. In addition, they can enter Master's and Doctorate programs in Chemistry departments affiliated with the Science Institutes of universities or in Chemistry education departments affiliated with the Educational Sciences Institutes and become academicians in these branches.
